Condominium Liens - CMRAO Blog Post

A CMRAO blog post in January 2025 and makes a very important point as to how a lien happens.

Can a condo board or condo management put a lien for nonpayment of condo fees or anything else on my unit without going through Condo Authority Tribunal? 

 

Condominium management does not “put a lien” on a unit. If you do not pay your common element fees, the condominium corporation automatically has a lien against your unit, which they must register within 90 days. Unit owners will typically receive one or more notices from their management provider if they are in arrears.

 

If the matter is not resolved, then the owner will be served with a Notice of Lien a minimum of 10 days prior to the lien being registered. Please review information about condo fees and liens available on the Condominium Authority of Ontario’s website.
