Communication from a TAG Vendor
• Under the updated Ontario Fire Code (effective January 1, 2026), properties that contain any fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces or attached garages must have carbon monoxide (CO) alarms on every storey of the building — including floors without sleeping areas.
• CO alarms must also continue to be installed adjacent to each sleeping area.
This applies to:
• Single-family homes, townhouses, cottages
• Multi-unit buildings, condos, apartments
• Rental properties and residential complexes
Why This Matters
Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odourless gas that can be deadly. Expanding CO detection requirements significantly improves occupant safety and helps keep your buildings compliant with provincial law.
